Hire a private driver in Georgia
A private driver gives your group its own car and a local driver who knows the roads, so you can see Georgia, in the Caucasus, without renting a car or relying on marshrutkas. You decide where to go and how long to stay; the driver gets you there.
Travellers book a driver with GeoWonder for three main reasons:
- Day trips out of Tbilisi, Kutaisi or Batumi, to places such as Kazbegi, Kakheti, Vardzia or Borjomi. Our day trips from Tbilisi page sets out the most popular ones.
- Multi-day road trips that link several regions, with a different bed each night or a few nights in one base.
- Transfers from an airport, or between cities such as Tbilisi, Kutaisi and Batumi.
Every trip is private and every route can be changed, so treat the tours on this page as ideas rather than fixed itineraries.
Vehicles: sedans, off-road vehicles, minivans and microbuses
We match the vehicle to your group, your luggage and the roads on your route. There are four types to choose from:
- Sedans for couples and small groups travelling on main roads and between cities.
- Off-road vehicles for mountain routes where the road surface or the season calls for one, for example parts of Svaneti, Racha or the higher roads around Kazbegi.
- Minivans for families and small groups with more luggage, or anyone who wants extra room on a long day.
- Microbuses for larger parties travelling together.
Families and luggage
Tell us how many adults and children are coming, roughly how many suitcases you have, and anything else that needs space, such as ski bags or a pushchair. We will suggest a vehicle that fits everyone comfortably rather than squeezing you in. For families we plan shorter driving stretches and more stops, and we set the pace to suit older travellers too.
Driver only, or driver plus guide?
You can book a driver on their own or a driver together with a guide, and the right choice depends on how much you want explained along the way.
Driver only
A driver takes you where you want to go and waits while you explore. It suits travellers who have read up, people visiting friends, business trips and straightforward transfers. Our drivers know the roads, though their job is driving rather than guiding.
Driver plus guide
A guide travels with you and handles the stories, the history, the food stops and the small practical details: which entrance to use, where to eat, what to try. It suits first visits, monasteries and archaeological sites where context matters, and wine regions where someone needs to explain what is in the glass. Guides work in English, Russian and Georgian. For more on what a guide adds, see our private tour guide in Tbilisi page.
Not sure? Tell us what you are planning and we will suggest the simpler option.
Multi-day road trips and city-to-city transfers
A driver for several days is the easiest way to cover a lot of Georgia without changing buses or worrying about directions. A classic road trip might link Tbilisi, Kakheti and Kazbegi in the east, then cross west to Kutaisi, Svaneti or Racha, and finish on the Black Sea coast in Batumi. Our list of the top 10 places to visit in Georgia is a good place to start picking stops.
We plan the route with you, including where to break long drives, and we can arrange accommodation along the way (hotels, guesthouses or apartments), entrance fees and meals, or leave all of that to you.
If you only need to get from one city to another, a single transfer works too. Common ones are Tbilisi to Kutaisi or Batumi, Kutaisi airport to Tbilisi, and Batumi to Kutaisi. You can turn a transfer into a sightseeing day by stopping somewhere on the way. Airport pickups are covered on our airport transfer page.
Mountain roads and safety
Georgia's mountain roads are spectacular and occasionally demanding, which is exactly where a local driver earns their keep. Routes such as the Georgian Military Road to Kazbegi, the road up to Mestia and Ushguli in Svaneti, and the climb into Racha change with the weather and the season.
- The right vehicle. Where the road or season calls for it, we plan the trip in an off-road vehicle.
- Rerouting. Passes and trails sometimes close, especially in winter. If that happens, we reroute you to something worth seeing instead of cancelling the day.
- Your pace. Long mountain drives are broken up with stops for views, coffee and food.

How to book a driver with GeoWonder
Booking a driver takes one WhatsApp conversation. Send us your dates, the number of people travelling, how much luggage you have and a rough idea of where you want to go. We will suggest a route and a vehicle and send you a quote, usually within a few hours and almost always the same day.
From there you adjust the plan until it fits: add a stop, swap a region, take a day out. When you are happy, you confirm and we agree payment with you, keeping it flexible. Phone and email (info@geowonder.tours) work too.
We are a local team and have been driving and guiding travellers around Georgia since 2013. We answer on WhatsApp 24/7, so you can reach us before the trip and while you are on the road.
